Three drones struck a container ship sailing in the Black Sea off Bulgaria on Wednesday, Defense Minister Dimitar Stoyanov said. The attack on the Liberian-flagged Contship Jet occurred about 21 nautical miles southeast of Shabla; its crew of 14 Filipinos and four Ukrainians was evacuated and taken aboard Bulgarian rescue vessels. The vessel was carrying 421 containers on a route from Haifa, Israel, to Constanța, Romania, but the contents of its cargo were not immediately known. The defense ministers of Bulgaria, Romania and Turkey condemned the attacks on commercial vessels and called for an immediate cessation, along with stronger intelligence sharing, early-warning capabilities and coordination. A series of drone attacks in the exclusive economic zones of Bulgaria and Romania threatens a global shipping route, has left two people dead and at least 25 missing, with Russia not claiming responsibility.
