The U.S. Congress has once again delayed federal restrictions on hemp-derived THC products, pushing the compliance deadline from November 12 to December 11 through a stopgap spending measure. THC beverages generated $239 million in U.S. retail sales in the 52 weeks through April, up 135% from a year earlier, according to NielsenIQ, which tracked more than 1,170 products across over 200 brands. The regulatory uncertainty has already had tangible impacts, with manufacturer Crescent Canna laying off half its workforce. Distributors are becoming increasingly reluctant to replenish inventory, which could make these beverages harder for consumers to find, even though their sale remains legal for now.
