Tesla is recalling nearly 2 million China-made Model 3 and Model Y vehicles manufactured at its Shanghai Gigafactory, its largest production hub. This adds to a growing list of massive recalls in the Chinese market. In January 2024, over 1.6 million vehicles were recalled for Autopilot steering functionality and door latch issues. In January 2025, over 1.2 million units were recalled for electronic power steering system defects. Tesla has resolved almost all Chinese recalls through over-the-air software updates, with no injuries or fatalities reported. The separate US recall of approximately 13,000 vehicles addressed battery contactor defects, a distinct issue from the Chinese actions.
