Tesla drops Full Self-Driving branding in Europe to win over regulators

Tesla renamed its driver-assistance feature from Full Self-Driving to Tesla Assisted Driving on its European websites starting October 8, 2026, to address regulator concerns. Germany and the Netherlands considered the former name misleading, as the system requires continuous human supervision and is classified as a Level 2 feature. Eight EU countries have granted national approvals based on the Dutch decision: the Netherlands, Lithuania, Estonia, Denmark, Belgium, Slovenia, Czechia, and Croatia. The TCMV (Technical Committee on Motor Vehicles) vote on broader EU recognition has been postponed until at least December 2026, although Germany’s Transport Ministry supports faster EU-wide approval.
