Stripe has agreed to acquire OpenRouter, the AI model routing startup, for more than $7 billion. The deal, reported by Bloomberg, transforms Stripe from a company that merely processes AI payments into one that now integrates both routing and billing of AI requests in a unified offering. OpenRouter had raised $113 million in a Series B round in May 2026, valuing the company at $1.3 billion, roughly five times less than the acquisition price just three months later. The platform provides access to more than 400 AI models and serves approximately 8 million users worldwide. Preliminary negotiations reportedly began around July 23, 2026, with an initial valuation considered at around $10 billion.
