Michael Saylor pauses Bitcoin accumulation as Strategy shifts focus to liquidity and preferred equity

Strategy Inc., formerly MicroStrategy, has paused its Bitcoin purchases for five consecutive weeks, the longest such gap since 2024, and sold 1,690 BTC in early August, with a single weekly sale of $216 million in July. The company has built a $4.8 billion cash reserve while still holding 840,447 BTC, breaking its longstanding pledge to never sell Bitcoin. In June 2026, Strategy adopted the Digital Credit Capital Framework and launched a $42 billion at-the-market equity program, along with a $132 million repurchase of its preferred stock ticker STRC, which has become the new centerpiece of Michael Saylor’s public messaging. Strategy remains by far the largest corporate holder of Bitcoin in the world, but this strategic pivot marks a major shift in its financial governance.
