Starknet’s Stwo prover cuts peak memory to 2.1 GiB, putting STARK proofs on phones

Starknet’s Stwo prover has reduced its peak memory requirement from 13.9 GiB to 2.1 GiB, enabling smartphones to generate STARK proofs locally for transactions. The prover went live on Starknet mainnet on November 3, 2025, replacing the earlier Stone prover and now handling proving for all Starknet blocks. Millions of local ZK proofs have already been generated across thousands of smartphone models, demonstrating the practical viability of on-device proof generation. This breakthrough enhances privacy by keeping sensitive transaction data on the device rather than sending it to remote servers. The 2.1 GiB figure applies specifically to transaction proofs, while larger workloads like proving entire blocks still require significantly more memory (20+ GiB).
