Spot memory prices surge to four times contract prices as AI demand overwhelms supply

HBM3E memory chips are trading at around $2,100 on the spot market versus $365 to $510 under long-term agreements, representing a four to five times premium. Server DRAM contract prices surged 45 to 50 percent quarter-over-quarter in Q4 2025, with TrendForce projecting an acceleration to 55 to 60 percent in Q1 2026, posting a year-over-year increase of 343.55 percent by September 2026. Samsung has locked approximately 70 percent of its memory production capacity into long-term agreements through 2031 with Nvidia, Microsoft, and Google. Analysts believe no meaningful supply relief will arrive before 2027, meaning future contract negotiations will reset at significantly higher levels.
