A study of the SIMD-0675 proposal examines a reorganization of Solana’s validator leader schedule so that consecutive leaders are more likely to be geographically close. The method aims to reduce the time required for information to travel between validators while leaving each validator’s number of production slots unchanged. The analysis uses 6,250 synthetic networks based on the chain’s 124 existing validator locations and finds an average handover delay reduction of about 29 milliseconds in one configuration. However, geographic grouping can concentrate leadership in one region for longer and create an incentive for validators to misreport their locations. The work remains research and does not indicate that the scheduling system has been activated on Solana’s mainnet.
