Senegal’s Prime Minister’s Office approved a Bitcoin mining pilot around September 14, 2026, aiming to monetize surplus renewable energy by generating dollar revenue. The country is restructuring its external debt, which has swollen to approximately 130% of GDP, with undisclosed debts estimated between $11 billion and $13 billion. An IMF program of $2.2 billion over three years was announced in early September 2026, with debt negotiations under the G20 Common Framework targeting a deal before December 2026. Talks focus on $5.2 billion in outstanding bonds and 1 trillion CFA francs ($1.72 billion) in swaps. No operators have been publicly named and no capacity figures have been disclosed so far.
