Major banking and financial players – Santander, BBVA, Trade Republic, and Western Union – will gather in Madrid from October 27th to 29th, 2026, at MERGE Madrid 2026 to analyze the integration of stablecoins into the financial system. The Qivalis alliance, bringing together 37 financial institutions from 15 European countries, will develop a euro-denominated stablecoin with a commercial launch planned for the second half of 2026. International banks including Bank of America, Citi, Deutsche Bank, and Goldman Sachs are also exploring forms of digital money backed one-to-one by reserves on public blockchains. Western Union’s USDPT stablecoin, issued by Anchorage Digital Bank on Solana, illustrates how these assets integrate into existing transfer networks. The event will bring together more than 3,000 attendees and 250 international speakers to examine issuance models, reserve protection, and coexistence with traditional bank deposits.
