Samsung Electronics generated approximately $8.7 billion in high-bandwidth memory revenue in the third quarter of 2026, up 33% from the previous quarter. SK hynix recorded about $7.6 billion in sales over the same period, an 11% increase, allowing Samsung to surpass its rival for the first time during the current artificial intelligence growth cycle. HBM4 sales, commercially shipped since February 2026 and driven largely by Nvidia’s Vera Rubin artificial intelligence accelerators, were the main engine of the increase. Samsung’s preliminary consolidated operating profit reached 107.4 trillion won, rising 782.5% year over year, driven by higher memory prices and strong HBM4 demand. The figures remain preliminary, while Samsung and SK hynix are working to qualify HBM4E for more advanced applications.
