Samsung Electronics is investing $37 billion in a new foundry complex in Taylor, Texas, where the first fab will use a 2 nm manufacturing process. Operations are scheduled to begin in late 2026, with a target capacity of 20,000 wafers per month in the second half of 2027, plus around 6,000 additional monthly wafers from new equipment. A second fab is also planned in Taylor, with mass production expected by 2030, and the site is expected to produce AI chips for clients including Tesla and Meta. In South Korea, the company plans two new fabs in Gwangju under a 400 trillion won commitment, worth roughly $290 billion. These investments are part of a broader plan exceeding 2,000 trillion won to expand advanced-node production capacity and improve foundry profitability.
