Russia’s Finance Ministry pays wages in digital rubles for first time

Russia’s Finance Ministry announced on Friday that some of its employees had received their wages in digital rubles for the first time. This option is available to Russian citizens on a voluntary basis starting October 1. During federal budget trials in 2025, approximately 16 million digital rubles, equivalent to $192,245, were disbursed. The ministry did not disclose how many participants were paid in digital currency or the total payroll amount. The Bank of Russia and the Finance Ministry are working together to integrate the digital ruble into budget procedures.
