Brazilian platform Mercado Bitcoin temporarily suspended cryptocurrency deposits and withdrawals after detecting and mitigating a security issue in one of its systems. According to the company, the incident caused no harm to customers and did not compromise their personal data, while security teams work to determine whether any assets were affected. An initial analysis by Hypernative identified more than $40 million in suspicious cryptocurrency transactions across several networks, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, Tron, Polygon, Arbitrum, Avalanche, BNB Smart Chain and Stellar. Stablecoin issuer Tether froze more than 4.5 million USDT linked to the incident, while Mercado Bitcoin is working with the relevant authorities on the investigation. The platform, a Ripple partner, is gradually restoring operations and plans to keep customers informed through its official channels.
