Restate secures $20M to build durable infrastructure for AI agents

Berlin-based startup Restate, founded by Apache Flink veterans, has closed a 20 million dollar Series A round led by venture capital firm Singular, with participation from Redpoint Ventures and Capital One Ventures. This raise brings Restate’s total funding to 27 million dollars, following a 7 million seed round in June 2024. Restate builds execution infrastructure that makes distributed backend services and AI agents inherently durable, as opposed to traditional approaches that layer complexity on top of existing processes. The company targets critical financial workflows and coding agents, a market currently dominated by competitor Temporal. Capital One Ventures’ strategic investment and the establishment of a commercial hub in San Francisco signal ambitions for US market expansion.
