Donald Trump will present the administration’s efforts to combat foreign criminal networks targeting Americans through fraudulent cryptocurrency investments at a White House event on Wednesday. The session will also address the seizure of fraudulent investment websites and online impersonation scams, with several cabinet officials expected to attend. According to the FBI, Americans filed more than one million internet scam complaints last year, an increase of 17% compared with 2024, while victims reported their highest losses on record. Trump’s family is heavily involved in soliciting crypto investments: his annual financial disclosure attributes $2.2 billion of last year’s earnings to digital assets, including $600 million from World Liberty Financial and $636 million from Trump-branded meme coins. Public Citizen estimates that investors in ventures linked to Trump and his family are at least $4.7 billion underwater, including $3.2 billion tied to the TRUMP meme coin, whose value has fallen more than 97% from its January 2025 peak.
