Realta Fusion, a Madison-based startup developing magnetic mirror fusion technology, announced a partnership with Madison Gas and Electric (MGE) to jointly develop a 200-megawatt electric fusion power plant in Wisconsin. MGE made a direct equity investment in Realta and will provide engineering support, equipment, and assistance with permitting and financing. The facility is designed to power roughly 150,000 homes and is targeting operation in the 2030s. In June 2026, Realta became the first commercial fusion entity to convert plasma kinetic energy directly into electricity.
