Qubic halts mainnet after wallet drain empties 1,404 accounts

Qubic, a decentralized AI computing network, suspended its mainnet on October 18, 2026, after an attacker drained 1,404 user wallets over approximately 1 hour and 44 minutes. The haul amounted to roughly 2.94 trillion QU tokens, worth approximately $1.3 million at the time. The exploit stemmed from weak, predictable wallet seeds created on legacy Apple devices, Safari browsers, and early iOS applications, rather than a bug in the network’s code. About 87.1% of the stolen QU remains immobilized on-chain and cannot be moved, while 12.9% reached the MEXC exchange where the receiving account was frozen within 1 hour. Qubic deployed client version 4.26.4 to fix the vulnerability, and the decision on compensating victims now rests with the network’s Computor cluster.
