Premier League net transfer spend reaches new heights this season

Premier League clubs have collectively spent £2.14 billion in gross transfer fees as of August 17, already surpassing the full totals of multiple prior summers. The league’s net spend stands at £856 million, with £1.28 billion flowing back in from player sales. On its own, the Premier League roughly matched the combined spending of the four next-largest European leagues (Serie A, La Liga, Bundesliga, Ligue 1). Chelsea leads individual spending with an estimated net outlay between £183 million and £242 million.
