French deputies adopted on October 25 an amendment to the 2027 finance bill aimed at taxing cryptocurrency-to-stablecoin conversions, particularly e-money tokens regulated under MiCA such as USDC and EURC. This measure would eliminate the current tax deferral on crypto-to-crypto exchanges: an investor converting BTC to USDC for 20,000 euros when initially purchased for 10,000 euros would immediately owe taxes on the 10,000-euro gain. The amendment also provides for a new calculation method: capital gains would now be based on the acquisition price of the specific assets sold, calculated using the weighted average price method. The measure is expected to take effect on January 1, 2027, but must still pass through the Senate and could be modified or rejected by the government.
