Patrick Witt announced his resignation as executive director of the President’s Council of Advisors on Digital Assets, commonly known as the White House Crypto Council, confirming the move on October 14, 2026. He becomes the third senior crypto official to leave the White House in 2026, following David Sacks in March and Harry Jung in July, after his predecessor Bo Hines also returned to the private sector. The House passed the Clarity Act more than a year ago, but the bill has stalled in the Senate amid failed procedural votes, leaving the industry’s federal market framework unrealized. The Blockchain Association credited Witt with advancing key digital asset policy initiatives, including the Clarity Act and the GENIUS Act. No successor has been named.
