The Osmosis community voted to stop minting new OSMO tokens, a change that took effect on October 26 and reduced daily issuance from 91,324 tokens to zero. Staking rewards will now be funded by protocol revenue, removing a source of dilution and selling pressure associated with distributing newly issued tokens. This change comes as the network’s total value locked fell from approximately $811 million at the end of 2021 to around $11 million in October 2026. Osmosis raised $21 million in October 2021, while Bitcoin Hyper has reportedly gathered more than $33.2 million through its presale. Bitcoin Hyper is also developing a Bitcoin Layer 2 infrastructure and plans a maximum supply of 21 billion HYPER tokens, illustrating a different approach to token scarcity.
