OpenAI is reportedly negotiating a new funding round of $30 billion that would value the company at $1.4 trillion, representing an increase of approximately 64% from its $852 billion valuation in March. This fundraising comes as the company pushes its long-awaited public debut to 2027 at the earliest, CEO Sam Altman having called a 2026 IPO “ill-advised”. OpenAI confidentially filed paperwork for an IPO with the SEC in June. Its rival Anthropic, developer of Claude, is moving ahead with plans to go public this year in an IPO that could value the company at more than $2 trillion.
