OpenAI, Google and Meta are competing for the .agent domain as part of ICANN’s new internet domain expansion, which received 1,615 applications from 481 applicants. OpenAI filed 15 applications including .agent, .gpt and .mcp, while Google and Meta are also targeting .agent and .mcp. Seven companies are pursuing .agi and five are targeting .mcp. ICANN also attracted cryptocurrency firms with 11 applications for .bit, 5 for .crypto and 4 for .wallet. Each standard application costs $227,000, and Google paid $25 million for .app in 2015.
