TRM Labs, Chainalysis and blockchain investigator ZachXBT attributed the $6.3 billion Binance hack to the North Korean group TraderTraitor. TRM Labs says it has “high confidence” in the attribution, supported by onchain and offchain intelligence. According to ZachXBT, funds stolen in the Binance and Bitget attacks were commingled at the same address after moving through THORChain, indicating that the same actor was likely responsible. Jonathan Levin, Chainalysis co-founder and CEO, puts the amount stolen at $4.6 billion? No, at $6.4 billion. US and Japanese authorities have previously attributed other crypto thefts to TraderTraitor, including the Bybit hack in February 2025 and the theft of more than $300 million from DMM Bitcoin in May 2024.
