ACT Party, New Zealand’s fourth-largest political party, has announced a proposal to eliminate taxes on cryptocurrency gains for individual holders after a twelve-month holding period. The six-point plan would make all gains tax-free for personal holdings kept longer than a year, while sales made before that window would remain subject to income tax rates ranging from 10.5% to 39%. Approximately 355,000 New Zealanders transacting roughly $36 billion in crypto would be affected by the changes. Deputy Leader Nicole McKee unveiled the proposal at the CryptoWinter26 event ahead of the November 7, 2026 general election. No other parliamentary party in New Zealand has publicly proposed comparable cryptocurrency policies.
