Netflix released a trailer for an eight-episode series about the collapse of cryptocurrency exchange FTX, centered on former CEO Sam Bankman-Fried and his former colleague and partner Caroline Ellison, who headed sister company Alameda Research. The series, set to premiere on November 19 and starring Anthony Boyle as Bankman-Fried and Julia Garner as Ellison, will explore Bankman-Fried’s effective altruism philosophy as well as the high-risk investments that led to the exchange’s downfall. Bankman-Fried was convicted in 2023 and sentenced to 25 years in prison for fraud, while Ellison, who testified against him under a plea deal, was released from federal custody in January. As of October, Bankman-Fried had pending motions seeking a presidential pardon from Donald Trump and requesting that his conviction be overturned by the U.S. Supreme Court.
