Neil Young filed a $10 million lawsuit against the Trump 47 Committee in the U.S. District Court in Richmond, Virginia, alleging that the committee used “Rockin’ in the Free World” without permission at several rallies intended to support Republicans in the 2026 midterm elections. Young claims Donald Trump was personally aware that a license was required and that Young had refused to grant one. The musician says a previous lawsuit filed in 2020 against Trump’s campaign corporation was settled after the company agreed not to use the song again without a license. The new complaint also names five additional defendants identified by the pseudonym “Doe,” whom Young believes are liable for copyright infringement.
