NATO is developing the Eastern Flank Deterrence Initiative, a defense plan against Russia centered on a network of drones, sensors and artificial intelligence called a “Kill Web”. The system stretches approximately 3,500 kilometers from Finland to the Black Sea and includes a forward autonomous zone designed to absorb the opening blows of an attack. The organization draws directly on lessons from the Ukraine conflict, where drone warfare and electronic countermeasures have proven decisive. Contractors involved include Palantir, RTX, Rheinmetall, Saab, Lockheed Martin and Boeing. Lethal decisions remain under human control, though AI handles data fusion and target identification.
