Morgan Stanley is using the DTCC’s tokenization service to convert certain rights in U.S. stocks and Treasury securities into transferable digital representations. These “digital twins” retain the ownership rights, investor protections and economic rights of traditional securities without creating new shares. Launched on October 28, the service enables transfers 24 hours a day, seven days a week, between wallets registered with the Depository Trust Company, which holds more than $114 trillion in assets under custody. Twenty institutions have signed an access agreement, including JPMorgan, Citi, Bank of America, BNP Paribas, Fidelity, State Street and UBS, while Morgan Stanley plans to support tokenized stocks on its alternative trading system in the first quarter of 2027.
