Frank X. Shaw, Microsoft’s chief communications officer, will leave the software giant at the end of the year after nearly 30 years at the company, including 17 years leading its communications division. The 64-year-old veteran of corporate communications shaped the company’s public messaging under three chief executives: Bill Gates, Steve Ballmer and Satya Nadella. Shaw’s departure comes as Microsoft has undergone major organizational changes, prioritizing its Copilot AI assistant and expanding its Azure cloud business, which surpassed 100 billion dollars in annual revenue in the most recent quarter. Several other executives have departed this year, and Microsoft laid off more than 15,000 employees in 2025 as part of its restructuring around AI priorities.
