Micron perpetual futures fell approximately 6.5% in eight minutes following the announcement of DeepSeek’s V4.1 Flash model. DeepSeek claims that the 552-billion-parameter model uses 75% less high-bandwidth memory for the KV cache and requires 87.5% less SSD capacity than the previous version. The reaction affected the wider sector, with SanDisk and Western Digital also under pressure, while Samsung and SK Hynix shares fell approximately 3% and 2% on the day after the model’s debut. These efficiency gains could force revisions to forecasts for HBM and NAND demand, although DeepSeek’s results still require independent testing.
