MetaMask added Stellar as a default network in its mobile and extension apps on October 29, allowing users to manage stablecoin payments on Stellar through their existing multichain accounts. A new, unfunded Stellar address must receive at least 1 XLM before receiving assets, and each ordinary token trustline requires an additional 0.5 XLM held in reserve. Users must manually activate the selected token, such as USDC, before bridging funds, because MetaMask warns that transferred funds can be lost if the corresponding trustline is missing. By contrast, an ordinary Stellar token transfer to a recipient without the required trustline fails. Stellar also allows another account to sponsor the reserves, but transaction fees must be paid with spendable XLM.
