MetaMask announced the preventive withdrawal of nearly 17,000 validators from Lido, representing approximately 523,000 ETH, following an infrastructure compromise that occurred on the night of September 30. On-chain analysis published on October 1 reveals that only 0.36 ETH was actually diverted: out of 19 validators that received a block reward, 18 sent their fees to an address funded via Tornado Cash. Customer withdrawal keys are not at risk, but the residual danger lies in potential slashing if the signing keys were compromised. Approximately 821 potentially affected validators remain active, including three suspected of already having had their rewards diverted. Lido expects all affected validators to be exited by October 7, with a complete cycle of exit, withdrawal, and re-entry potentially taking up to 45 days.
