Ethereum is preparing a 200 million gas push as its Layer 1 scaling strategy accelerates

Share

Ethereum will activate the Glamsterdam upgrade on the Sepolia testnet on October 6, testing a 200 million gas preference to expand its execution capacity. Prysm and Teku clients both support Glamsterdam but default to 60 million gas, requiring validators to manually configure their settings to participate in the 200 million test. EIP-8261 introduces an optional gas-limit schedule allowing consensus clients to coordinate preferences without altering consensus validity rules, meaning blocks remain valid regardless of their gas level. The upgrade combines the Amsterdam execution upgrade with Gloas on the consensus layer and introduces enshrined proposer-builder separation alongside block-level access lists for parallelized validation. Hoodi and mainnet activation dates remain undecided, leaving validator participation in the 200 million preference as a key signal before proceeding to production deployment.
