MediaTek has secured a second customer for its custom AI chips, with mass production expected to start in 2028, according to the Taiwanese chip designer during its third-quarter 2026 earnings call on October 30. The customer is not a Chinese company, ruling out speculation that ByteDance was the buyer. MediaTek began small-volume shipments of its first AI accelerator in September 2026 and raised its 2027 ASIC revenue target to approximately $16 billion, representing an estimated 20% of the AI accelerator market. In the third quarter, consolidated revenue increased 18.3% year over year to NT$168.06 billion, while gross margin remained steady at 46.3%.
