Mastercard opened early developer access to its Agent Pay for Machines program on October 20, 2026 at the Cloudflare Connect conference. The program enables AI agents to make autonomous payments within spending limits pre-set by a human. Developers granted early access receive a suite of APIs, a broader developer toolkit, and a testing sandbox. Agent Pay for Machines supports cards, bank accounts and stablecoins, all with built-in spending controls. Mastercard has already run pilots with Cloudflare, Coinbase, Base, Ant International, BVNK and AIsa, and the program remains in a testing phase before any potential commercial rollout.
