Malaysia’s central bank (Bank Negara Malaysia) has launched a distributed ledger-based platform for issuing and holding tokenized bonds called the Scripless Securities Depository System (SSDS+). The platform tracks ownership and transfers of tokenized securities and connects to the RENTAS+ system for payment settlement in central bank money. It supports tokenized debt securities, including Islamic bonds known as sukuk, targeting the wholesale market while remaining ready for government and corporate retail bonds. No specific securities have been issued through the platform yet and transaction volumes remain undisclosed. The launch follows BNM’s three-year asset tokenization roadmap unveiled in November 2025, which outlined pilot projects in Islamic finance, supply chain financing and programmable payments.
