Luxembourg’s new anti-fraud law pulls crypto exchanges into real-time fraud alerts

Luxembourg unanimously passed Bill 8722 in July 2026, allowing its Financial Intelligence Unit to issue real-time fraud alerts to both banks and licensed crypto exchanges. The legislation follows the Caritas Luxembourg scandal, which lost approximately 61 million euros through over 8200 fraudulent transactions in 2024. Last year, Luxembourg police recorded 6382 fraud cases, a 3.89% year-on-year increase, while reports from financial professionals surged 32% to over 18000 cases. Licensed crypto platforms operating in Luxembourg will now need automated compliance infrastructure capable of receiving and processing FIU alerts.
