Mubadala Investment, Abu Dhabi’s sovereign wealth fund, is negotiating an investment of up to ¥1 trillion in an AI data center in Akita Prefecture, Japan. The total project cost across all participants could reach ¥2 trillion, approximately $6.5 to $7 billion. The facility would have approximately 500 MW capacity, making it Japan’s largest data center. The project is part of Japan’s strategic plan projecting ¥32.7 trillion in combined public and private investment by fiscal year 2035. Discussions are at an early stage and Mubadala has declined to comment publicly.
