Binance estimates the impact of a cyberattack on its platform at $6.3 billion, compared with $5.912 billion according to Chainalysis. About $3 billion in stolen assets have been frozen by the exchange, its partners, and several stablecoin issuers, while deposits have resumed and withdrawals are expected to be reactivated within 48 hours. Binance’s investigation points to a compromised DevOps engineer’s laptop, with no evidence so far of a private-key leak, while Blockaid suspects the signing infrastructure was manipulated. Chainalysis, Blockaid, and TRM Labs attribute the attack to the North Korean group TraderTraitor with high confidence. The theft led to precautionary freezes on Aave markets, Bitcoin falling below $77,000, and BNB dropping 8%, while Ripple, World Liberty Financial, First Digital, and Arbitrum’s security council froze funds connected to the theft.
