Actors identifying as white-hat hackers returned 3,400 BTC, worth approximately $270 million, to the Liquid Federation after withdrawing nearly $320 million from its Bitcoin reserves on Sunday. This sum represents 85% of the amount stolen, with roughly 4,000 BTC withdrawn from a total of 4,200 BTC. Approximately 598 BTC remain in the actors’ control, with Blockstream stating it continues to negotiate with them. The attack exploited a vulnerability in Elements, the open-source software underpinning Liquid, whose bridge nodes have now been patched. The network remains paused pending further fixes and a coordinated restart by Federation members.
