About 4,000 BTC (approximately $320 million) were withdrawn from the Liquid Federation wallet on Sunday, representing roughly 95% of the Bitcoin pegged into the sidechain. The unidentified actors, claiming to be white-hat hackers, communicated with Blockstream through Bitcoin OP_RETURN messages and PGP-encrypted text, offering to return ‘most’ of the funds once the vulnerability is fixed. Ledger CTO Charles Guillemet confirmed that 3,400 BTC have been returned, leaving approximately 600 BTC still under the hackers’ control. Guillemet questioned whether the remaining funds could reasonably be described as a legitimate bug bounty.
