LayerZero Labs unveiled Zero, a new heterogeneous Layer-1 blockchain architecture on February 10, 2026, backed by major institutional investors including Citadel Securities, ARK Invest, Google Cloud, DTCC, and ICE, the parent company of the New York Stock Exchange. The architecture uses zero-knowledge proofs to decouple transaction execution from verification, with performance targets reaching up to 5 million transactions per second through parallel Atomicity Zones at a cost of approximately $0.0001 per transaction. For comparison, Ethereum processes around 15-30 TPS and Solana’s theoretical maximum is approximately 65,000 TPS. The mainnet launch is targeted for fall 2026. The ZRO token secures the network and benefits from a fee structure where 75% of certain ATLAS fees are directed toward a buy-and-burn mechanism.
