Kraken now allows eligible traders in the European Economic Area to trade Bitcoin and Ether options through their existing derivatives accounts on Kraken Pro. The contracts are cash-settled and denominated in U.S. dollars, with maturities ranging from weekly to semiannual, and Kraken accepts more than 30 currencies as collateral. Portfolio margin is enabled by default, allowing offsetting positions to reduce required margin, while options and futures share the same collateral pool. Options buyers can lose the full value of their positions, while sellers can lose substantially more than posted margin and may face unlimited losses. The request-for-quote system limits trades to five components at most, and Kraken may use a sealed-offer auction to liquidate distressed positions.
