Kalshi, a CFTC-regulated derivatives platform, filed a proposal to offer perpetual futures contracts on large-cap US stocks like Apple, Microsoft, Tesla, and Nvidia, as well as ETFs. These contracts would cover up to 58 stocks and ETFs with market capitalizations exceeding $100 billion, with minimum margins of 15.5%, representing roughly 6x leverage. Coinbase Derivatives filed a nearly identical application on the same day for contracts covering 50 to 60 liquid US equities. Both platforms plan 24/5 trading, allowing investors to react to overnight news without waiting for market open. No perpetual futures product tied to equities currently exists in the US market, and both filings require joint approval from the SEC and CFTC.
