Jamie McDonald’s prediction market ties could enhance prosecutions in Manhattan

Jamie McDonald was sworn in as US Attorney for the Southern District of New York on July 29, succeeding Jay Clayton. He previously served as enforcement director at the CFTC, where he oversaw event contracts, and represented Polymarket as a partner at Sullivan & Cromwell. His rare expertise in prediction markets comes as the office just filed the first-ever federal insider trading cases in this sector. Two individuals have been charged: one allegedly turned $33,000 into over $400,000 by trading contracts related to Maduro’s capture using classified military intelligence, while a Google engineer allegedly made approximately $1.2 million using internal company data. Combined, these two cases represent over $1.6 million in allegedly illicit profits.
