Core Lightning, one of the main software clients for Bitcoin’s Lightning Network, warned that attackers are targeting nodes running version 26.06.7 or earlier. Funds held in those unpatched payment channels could be at risk. The fix, version 26.06.8, has been publicly available since September 22, but developers have not disclosed the exact nature of the flaw to prevent other attackers from replicating the exploit. For most Lightning users through wallet applications, the risk remains indirect since the service provider typically handles node updates. This warning follows a string of security issues that affected the Lightning Network in August.
