The U.S. Internal Revenue Service (IRS) sends approximately 10,000 warning letters per month regarding cryptocurrency transactions, according to a U.S. crypto tax law expert. These letters come in three types (6173, 6174, and 6174-A), with the most serious (6173) requiring taxpayers to sign a statement under penalties of perjury. Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) alleges that President Trump, his family, and affiliated businesses benefit from immunity against certain tax audits, in violation of the constitutional Domestic Emoluments Clause. According to CREW, Trump could owe more than $100 million in additional taxes related to claimed losses on Chicago properties. Meanwhile, the UAE has introduced a 2026 framework for VAT on cryptocurrency, while France faces rising cryptocurrency-related kidnappings linked to concerns over tax data security.
